Setup Your Slate

Option 1: Setup via Smartphone WiFi (Recommended)
- Step 1: Power On
Power on by plugging in the usb and battery. If it is brand new, freshly flashed, or switching to different wifi network - tap the 'Prg' button on the back to enter "Setup Mode" and broadcast its own temporary Wi-Fi signal.
- Step 2: Connect to the Slate
Open the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone. Look for a new network called Slate Setup and tap to connect to it.
- Step 3: Open the Portal
A setup screen should automatically pop up on your phone. (Note: If it doesn't appear, open your phone web browser and type 192.168.4.1 into the address bar).
- Step 4: Enter Your Details
On the setup page, enter your home Wi-Fi network name (SSID), your Wi-Fi password, your GMT time zone offset, and your ZIP code.
- Step 5: Save & Reboot
Tap save. Your Slate will begin to restart. It will take a couple screen refreshes. Please give it a few minutes to complete the setup and pull the current data. You are all set!
Option 2: Setup via Laptop / Desktop WiFi
- Step 1: Power On

Firmware Updates
Use a data-enabled USB cable to install the latest build.
Troubleshooting Connection Issues:
- Ensure your USB cable is data-sync (not charge-only).
- Missing port? Install Bridge Drivers.

Emergency Mode
⚠️ CRITICAL: Antenna Required
You MUST attach the included LoRa antenna BEFORE flashing Meshtastic. Transmitting without an antenna attached will permanently destroy the radio chip.
1. Flash Meshtastic
Overwrite your firmware to join the mesh network. Choose Heltec Wireless Paper as your target device.
